Which Patients Can Benefit?

Which Patients with Heart Disease
Can Benefit from EECP Treatment?

All patients with coronary artery disease, in other words, patients whose cardiac arterial vessels have narrowings and/or occlusions due to atherosclerosic disease process, can benefit from EECP therapy.

All patients with heart failure, in other words, patients whose heart is unable to pump adequate blood to the tissues and organs, can benefit from EECP therapy.

EECP is the treatment of choice for those cardiac patientswho had bypass surgery and/or balon-stent application in the past but who are still having chest pain and don’thave any chance of being treated by the same invasive interventional therapies again.

EECP is also the treatment of choice for these patients who have diffuse coronary artery disease but whose arteries are not suitable for any invasive intervention stated above on first diagnosis, and also for those patients who have small vessel coronary artery disease. Both conditions are usually seen in diabetic patients and female patients.

EECP can provide satisfactory recovery to those patients with heart failure and restricted physical activity, even to those who are severely disabled and are candidates to implantation of artificial heart and heart transplantation. They can survive, managing their daily personal activities without restriction, with EECP support, similar to those patients with renal failure who survive with dialysis support.

Who Can Benefit from EECP Treatment
for The Prevention of Heart Disease?

Patients who had successful balloon-stent applications and/or bypass operations but are candidates for early re-stenosis and occlusions due to having small coronary arteries (as mostly seen in diabetics and women), should receive EECP therapy in order to prolong the asymptomatic period provided by these interventions anddelay the recurrence of the disease.

Patients with coronary artery disease but have no symptoms due to mild to moderate narrowings in their coronary arteries without causing any restriction in blood supply and any symptoms, yet.

Patients whohave no documented coronary artery disease but have strong family history and many risk factors, (including diabetes, hypertension, high lipid levels, obesity, smoking, lack of regular physical activity, stress) and therefore candidates for coronary artery disease.

The rationale for the use of EECP for prevention in symptom-free patients is that:

Atherosclerosis, the cause of coronary artery disease, is a chronic and progressive disease.

Frequently used invasive interventional therapies in coronary artery disease, such as bypass surgery and balloon-stent application, are the treatment modalities focused only on the narrowed point of the arteries and provide recovery for a period of time, depending upon the presence risk factors for atherosclerosis.

EECP Therapy, with its inherent anti-atherosclerotic effect, is beneficial in preventing and delaying atherosclerotic progress of the arteries all over the body, including all coronary arteries, not only at the narrowed point of the vessel.

In summary,EECP is a very useful treatment modality for every stage of coronary artery disease, beginning from the presence of risk factors and silent stage of the disease without any symptoms and documented disease, to the advanced stage of the disease with severe symptoms refractory to other treatment modalities.
